Tyskland vil kreve at smarttelefon-produsenter tilbyr oppdateringer og reservedeler i syv år

Hvor lenge bør produsentene tilby oppdateringer og deler til smarttelefonene de selger? EU mener fem år – Tyskland mener syv år.

Tyske myndigheter mener at produsentene bør tilby både reservedeler og sikkerhetsoppdateringer i syv år, og nå forsøker myndighetene å overbevise EU om dette. Et hovedargument for å sette grensen på syv år, er at en såpass lang tid vil legge til rette for at folk beholder smarttelefonen sin lenger, noe som igjen kan ha positive effekter på miljøet.

EU ønsker på sin side å gå inn for å tvinge produsentene til å tilby oppdateringer i fem år. Samtidig ønsker de å kreve at produsentene tilbyr deler for smarttelefoner i fem år, og deler i seks år for nettbrett.

Enige om energimerking og reparasjonsskala

Men Tyske myndigheter ønsker ikke bare å forlenge denne tiden. De ønsker også at produsentene skal tilby deler til en «fornuftig pris», og at leverandørene offentliggjør prisene på reservedeler. I tillegg ønsker de at prisen på deler ikke skal øke over tid.

Noe EU og tyske myndigheter er enige om, er imidlertid at det bør innføres en energimerking og reparasjonsskala som viser hvor enkelt en enhet kan repareres.

Produsentene er uenige

Oppsummert legger altså Tyskland seg på en strengere linje enn EU. Men produsentene er uenige i både EU og tyske myndigheters forslag. DigitalEurope, den europeiske organisasjonen som representerer den digitale teknologibransjen – inkludert Apple, Google og Samsung – ønsker at produsentene skal tilby sikkerhetsoppdateringer i tre år, og to år for funksjonelle oppdateringer.

Det ventes at EU introduserer sitt lovforslag i 2023.
